Why Jurisdiction Matters
Keeping data in-country does not, by itself, determine which foreign laws may apply. The U.S. CLOUD Act can require a provider subject to U.S. jurisdiction to produce data within its possession, custody or control, even when that data is stored outside the United States. FISA Section 702 provides a separate framework for certain foreign-intelligence surveillance involving U.S.-based electronic communications service providers.
SALT’s locally owned, operated and hosted model is designed to reduce this exposure. With no U.S. parent company, clients gain clearer control over where data is held, who operates it and which legal framework applies—moving beyond data residency towards practical data sovereignty.
